Update::BREAKING: Fight In Anambra Assembly As Factional Speakers Struggle To Take Seat The struggle by factions of the Anambra State House of Assembly to take possession of the seat of the Speaker is currently causing a fight in the hallowed chambers. Both factions of the House, led by their separate Speakers had arrived the State Assembly complex at about 10 a.m. in the morning, but could not sit for plenary because of the tussle over which of the two Speakers should preside over the meeting. About 22 out of the 30 members of the House had three weeks ago impeached Speaker Rita Maduagwu, replacing her with Hon. Ikem Uzoezie. But Maduagwu had quickly denied being impeached, while the Uzoezie faction insisted she remained impeached. This had led to the sealing of the House by police authorities to forestall any breach of peace. So he now packs his laptop, suit and shoes into a waterproof bag, straps it to his back and swims 2km to work along the Isar River in Munich, Germany. Depending on the season, he wears swimming trunks or a long wetsuit – as well as rubber sandals to protect his feet from glass or the occasional bicycle laying in the river. His commute sometimes invites laughs from bystanders on the bridges above, but he says it’s faster and more relaxing than sitting in traffic.

Georgia has elected Salome Zurabishvili as the countries first female president, with 59% of the vote against rival Grigol Vashadze on 40%. Ruling party candidate and French-born ex-diplomat won Georgia’s presidential election with 59.52% of the vote, the election commission said today with all ballots counted. She beat her rival Grigol Vashadze, who ran from an alliance of 11 opposition parties led by exiled ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili’s United National Movement (UNM), and who ultimately took 40.48% of the vote. Ms Zurabishvili is a former French career diplomat who served as Georgia’s foreign minister from 2004 to 2005. Student 'Ran Mad' after Being Dropped by Lexus SUV in Ogun State Nigeria There was pandemonium after a young lady allegedly ran mad after being dropped by a Lexus SUV, yesterday, in Ogun State. The lady identified as Blessing was said to be a student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba in Ondo state. However, she was found in an unfortunate state in Ijebu Ode, a place located in Ogun state. According to reports, the lady when interrogated could not provide a cohesive answer as to what occurred to her. She was later tied up by people around after taking her public displays to another level and causing disturbance. Efforts are now being made to locate her people.

Update::JUST IN: PDP Senator Defects To APC The Senator representing Gombe South, Joshua Lidani, has defected from the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC. Lidani’s defection was disclosed by the Senate Majority Leader, Ahmed Lawan during plenary on Wednesday. Lawan congratulated Lidani but did not give reasons the lawmaker defected to the ruling party. “Let me inform this Senate that very distinguished Senator Joshua Lidani representing Gombe south is defecting from the PDP to the APC. Congratulations,” he said. This is coming few weeks after Senator representing Rivers West, Osinachukwu Ideozu defected to the APC.

Update::News Digest: FG slashes JAMB, NECO, Basic education exams' fees;Kenya gay rugby player 'granted bail FG slashes JAMB, NECO, Basic education exams’fees The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the downward review of Examination registration fees for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Senior Secondary and Basic Education Certificate. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, disclosed this at the end of the Council’s meeting which was presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. According to the minister, the JAMB fee for the UTME has been reduced from N5,000 to N3,500, the Senior Secondary School fee charge by NECO is now N9,850 as against N11,350 while the Basic Education certificate by NECO is reduced from N5,500 to N4,000.
