Eyeing China, US to hold missile drill in Japan's Okinawa

Image
The US military will this year conduct its first ever missile drill around the Japanese island of Okinawa, according to a report Thursday, as Washington seeks to counter an increasingly assertive China. The US military has told its Japanese counterpart it plans to deploy surface-to-ship missiles in the strategically important Okinawa this year for the first such drill by Japan's key ally, the Sankei Shimbun reported, without citing sources. The drill would involve a mobile rocket launcher seen as a counter-measure to potential attacks from Chinese surface-to-sea ballistic missiles, the paper said. In recent years, Chinese warships have frequently sailed through waters near Okinawa, where the majority of US troops in Japan are based. Foreign News:::::Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that Arab countries viewed Israel as an "indispensable ally" fighting Iran and the Islamic State group.

Image
Update:: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that Arab countries viewed Israel as an "indispensable ally" fighting Iran and the Islamic State group. That evaluation, he told Brazil's Globo TV during a visit to Rio, has caused "a revolution in relations with the Arab world." The comments came as Israel has stepped up air strikes on Iranian positions in neighboring Syria, and as Israel digested an abrupt decision by President Donald Trump to withdraw US troops from Syria. Netanyahu has repeatedly warned that Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons to destroy his country. Israel, he said, had shown itself to be active in battling "radical Islam, violent Islam -- either the one led by radical Shiites led by Iran, or the one led by the radical Sunnis led by Daesh (IS) and Al-Qaeda." "Unfortunately we have not made any advance with the Palestinians. Half of them are already under the gun of Iran and of radical Islam," Netanyahu added. ...

Foreign News::::China taking advantage of Taiwan's openness, warns Tsai

Image
Update:: China's manipulation of Taiwan's democratic openness is the biggest threat to the island's security, President Tsai Ing-wen said Tuesday, as she called on Beijing to seek peaceful means to solve their differences. Relations between China and Taiwan have spent two years in the doldrums since the election of Tsai, who has refused to acknowledge Beijing's stance that the island is part of "one China". Tsai's comments came a day before Chinese President Xi Jinping is due to give a landmark speech on Taiwan. It will be closely watched on the island where many have been rattled by the Chinese leader's increasingly muscular rhetoric. Beijing still sees democratic Taiwan as part of its territory to be reunified by force if necessary, despite the two sides being ruled separately since the end of a civil war on the mainland in 1949. China has cut off official communication with Tsai's government and stepped up military and diplomatic pressure. In...

News:::church members kneeling for pastor as he walks go viral

Image
Religion is a big part of people's lives, especially those in Nigeria. Many would go to any length to obtain the favour and mercy of whoever they consider to be the supreme Being. Because pastors and men of God are usually to be messengers of the Sovereign, they usually receive a fair share of the loyalties people give to the Divine. The assertion above recently proved itself true through what can be regarded as a quizzical and surprising situation. A video showing an undisclosed man of God as he walked into his own church has been making rounds online and attracting the attention of people. What is remarkable about the video is not the man or the car he came down as he walked into his church. Rather, it is the attitude and disposition of his church members at his arrival that has got many people talking. As seen in the video, as soon as the man's car approached, the members of his church who were loitering around the environment instantly knelt down and put their two hands tog...

Image
Update:: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied that some governors elected on its platform, were secretly working to help President Muhammadu Buhari win next year’s election. There have been speculations, that some of these Governors, especially from the South-East, have promised Buhari votes. However, speaking to Vanguard, Kola Ologbodiyan, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, insisted it was a ploy by the All Progressives Congress (APC), to rig the 2019 poll. “I find it strange that any member of the PDP will pledge a particular percentage of votes for President Buhari. If that is true, it confirms our fear that there are plans to rig the 2019 elections by writing figures. You cannot determine a percentage of votes that will go in any direction in a free, fair and credible election. You do not know the mindset of every voter. “I do not think that it is attainable to pledge a certain percentage of votes; all I know is that the governors on the platform of the PDP are supportin...
