Painful! Firework Blows Off UNIUYO Student's Fingers (Graphic Photos)

A student of the University of Uyo has lost his fingers after being blown off by firework and is in need of emergency surgery.   As reported, the young man was celebrating 1st day of January when the accident occurred.    The firework was believed to have seven rounds but as the boy held it in his hand and lit it, it exploded on the first round.   He is reportedly a final year student in the faculty of education, UNIUYO.

DRAMA As Two Police Commissioners Resume In Lagos

Update::   There was mild drama Tuesday at the Ikeja Headquarters of the Lagos Police Command as two Police Commissioners resumed duty for the day. It was gathered that at the Government Reservation Area (GRA) headquarters, Edgal Imohimi, the state Police commissioner joined Kayode Egbetokun, a Deputy Commissioner who was on Monday widely reported to be the new commissioner in the state. Mr Edgal, billed to hand over following his redeployment, resumed Tuesday and said he remained in charge, throwing reporters and others at the GRA office into confusion. Earlier, Mr Egbetokun, billed to take over the baton after a joint news conference Tuesday, arrived at the Command ahead of Mr Edgal. China's Moon mission sees first seeds sprout

Update:: Seeds taken up to the Moon by China's Chang'e-4 mission have sprouted, says China National Space Administration. It marks the first time any biological matter has grown on the Moon, and is being seen as a significant step towards long-term space exploration. The Chang'e 4 is the first mission to land on and explore the Moon's far side, facing away from Earth. It touched down on 3 January, carrying instruments to analyse the region's geology.

Brexit vote: Donald Tusk suggests UK should stay in EU

Update:: European Council President Donald Tusk has suggested that the UK should stay in the EU, after the prime minister's Brexit deal was rejected in parliament. "If a deal is impossible, and no one wants no deal, then who will finally have the courage to say what the only positive solution is?", he tweeted. MPs voted by 432 votes to 202 to reject the deal, which sets out the terms of Britain's exit from the EU on 29 March. EU officials and politicians have reacted with dismay to the result.

Six dead in attack on upmarket Nairobi hotel complex

Update:: At least six people were killed when an Islamist suicide bomber and gunmen stormed an upmarket hotel and office complex in Nairobi, with police still trying to rescue people trapped inside the compound Wednesday after a siege of over 12 hours. Gunshots rang out sporadically in the capital as police tried to rescue survivors and flush out the attackers, however it was unclear how many were still hiding inside the complex.

Rihanna is suing her father, Ronald Fenty, for exploiting her name in what she says are his own million-dollar business deals. According to a the suit, obtained by USA TODAY, Rihanna has sued her father and his business partner, Moses Perkins, for invasion of privacy and "egregiously and fraudulently" misrepresenting that their company, Fenty Entertainment, is affiliated with the pop star.   Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, says she has nothing to do with her father's company. “Although Mr. Fenty is Rihanna’s father, he does not have, and never has had, authority to act on Rihanna’s behalf," reads the suit filed Tuesday in federal court in Los Angeles. BREAKING: Justice Onnoghen Absent As Asset Declaration Trial Starts At CCT

Update:: Walter Onnoghen, the Chief Justice of Nigeria due to be arraigned for alleged false assets declaration charges, was absent in court when his trial commenced on Monday morning. Danladi Umar, the Code of Conduct Tribunal chairman, called Mr Onnoghen’s case at about 10:08 on Monday, and the chief justice was absent. Wole Olanipekun, a senior Nigerian lawyer who is leading a team of 46 other senior lawyers to enter defence for the chief justice, began by challenging the jurisdiction of the case. “You have to first determine whether you have the jurisdiction to try this matter,” Mr Olanipekun said to the tribunal chairman Mr Olanipekun said Mr Onnoghen has not been indicted by the National Judicial Council as legally required of serving judges before his matter was picked up by the tribunal following a petition filed by a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress. Senator Lindsey Graham, who is close to Mr Trump, said a limited re-opening of a few weeks would allow talks to resume between Republicans and Democrats. The partial government shutdown has now become the longest in US history. It has left hundreds of thousands of public workers unpaid and government offices closed. President Trump is refusing to approve a budget unless it includes $5.7bn (£4.5bn) for a wall along the Mexican border - a key campaign pledge. Democrats have rejected his request and say they will not negotiate further until the government is reopened.

Update:: Nigeria's chief justice will face trial Monday for allegedly breaching asset-declaration rules, the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) said Saturday, a month before a presidential election in Africa's most populous country. Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen is the head of Nigeria's judiciary, which plays a key role in election matters and has helped resolve disputes in past votes. The conduct tribunal, which tries asset-declaration misdemeanors, said in a statement Saturday that Onnoghen would face six separate counts, without giving further details.

Update:: Nobel Prize-winning American scientist James Watson has been stripped of his honorary titles after repeating comments about race and intelligence. In a TV programme, the pioneer in DNA studies made a reference to a view that genes cause a difference on average between blacks and whites on IQ tests. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory said the 90-year-old scientist's remarks were "unsubstantiated and reckless". Dr Watson had made similar claims in 2007 and subsequently apologised. He shared the Nobel in 1962 with Maurice Wilkins and Francis Crick for their 1953 discovery of the DNA's double helix structure.

Iran sanctions: European buyers turn to Nigerian oil

European refiners are turning to Nigerian crude oil grades following a drop in exports from Iran after the United States’ sanctions on the second-biggest producer in the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries. A shortage of distillate-rich crudes in the Mediterranean caused by the dip in Iranian exports has redirected some supply of the likes of Urals , Azeri or CPC away from northwest Europe, according to Reuters. Qua Iboe, Nigeria’s largest crude oil grade, was said to have changed hands at a premium of $1.75 to dated Brent this week, its highest in months, while the supply of similar grades such as Forcados and Bonga was said to be virtually sold out. There were around a dozen Nigerian cargoes still believed to be available for sale but this was down from closer to 20 at the start of the week.
