BREAKING: EFCC To Pay N228m Within 72-Hour After Losing Fraud Case Against Ex-Taraba Gov

Update:: A Federal High Court, sitting in Jalingo Taraba State, has discharged and acquitted Sani Abubakar Danladi, former acting Governor and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, of alleged fraud. Also acquitted are Joel Ikenya, a former Minister of Labour and Productivity, and Mark Bako Useni, former Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly. The court also gave the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a 72-hour ultimatum to refund the sum of N228million to the defendants. The EFCC had filed the case against the trio on alleged fraud involving N450million. Justice Stephen Pam ruled that the case by the EFCC lacked merit and ordered the anti-graft agency to refund N228million, which was earlier remitted to the commission by the defendants. The judge maintained that the EFCC could not substantiate its evidence against the defendants, and urged the commission to desist from infringing on the rights of innocent citizens...

SARS Operatives Shot An Unarmed Guy, He Died Instantly

Update:: In what has become a mainstay in Nigeria today, notorious operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) shot an unarmed guy in Benin, Edo State this morning, Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at the point where he was being arrested. As was seen in a video which is currently trending online, the guy which was shot died instantly. The video shows that he was not the only one being arrested as four other persons were seen lying on the floor. Delta Woman Stabbed In The Eye During Fight With Her Sister

Update:: A 37-year-old woman has been left blind in one eye after she was stabbed in the face with a shard of glass  during a fight with her sister. According to a close source, the lady whose identity wasn’t revealed was rushed to Delta State University Teaching Hospital where she was given local anaesthetic before surgeons pulled out the shard which had left her unable to see, then stitched up the cuts on her eyelids. Before she was operated Doctors said she was in an ‘anxious state’ because of the gaping wound in her cheek. Dr. Mabel Okiemute Etetafia of Delta State University reported the woman’s predicament in the journal BMJ Case Reports. TRAGEDY: Drunk Driver Kills Four Worshippers In Abeokuta, Ogun State

A drunk driver on Friday night crushed four Muslim worshippers to death along the Moshood Abiola way in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital. The four occupants of the car also sustained injuries in the crash. A witness said the drink-driver, who was in the company of three other occupants including one female, lost control of the vehicle he was driving before he ploughed into the victims. The Head of Operations Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Abeokuta Division, Olaleye Babajide, confirmed the incident. He said the accident occurred at about 10.30 pm. Update:: The last four years have been the world's hottest since record-keeping began, with 2018 the fourth warmest on record, according to data published Thursday by US research group Berkeley Earth. Temperatures in 2018 were around 1.16 degrees Celsius (2.09 degrees Fahrenheit) above the average temperature of the second half of the 19th century, from 1850-1900, often used as a pre-industrial baseline for global temperature targets. The European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service published its own data on January 7 that also found 2015-2018 to be the hottest years on record.

Angola decriminalises homosexuality

Update:: Parliament in Angola has abolished a law widely interpreted to be a ban on homosexuality. The government has also prohibited discrimination against people on the basis of sexual orientation; anyone refusing to employ or provide services to individuals based on their sexual orientation may face up to two years in prison. Angola is the latest former Portuguese colony to repeal laws outlawing same-sex conduct, following Sao Tome and Cape Verde There have been no known prosecutions under the now expunged law. Many other African countries enforce strict legislation against homosexuality.

Nigerian court gives order to stop trial of top judge

Update:: A Nigerian appeals court issued an interim order stopping a tribunal from charging the chief justice with breaching asset-declaration rules. Nigeria's most senior judge is under investigation after hundreds of thousands of dollars were found in accounts the authorities say belong to him. Chief Justice Onnoghen has maintained his innocence and his lawyer argued that the tribunal investigating him had ignored rulings from other courts. He has been asked to appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal for trial but says the tribunal does not have the authority to try him.

Top court allows Kenyan schools to ban hijabs

Update:: Kenya's highest court has overturned a ruling that obliged schools to allow Muslim girls to wear hijabs in class. The Supreme Court now says schools should use their own discretion and determine their own rules. The legal process began when parents of three Muslim students sued a school, sponsored by the Methodist Church, over the suspension of Muslim students who went against the school's hijab ban. In an initial ruling, the High Court sided with the school, but after an appeal students were allowed to wear hijabs. The school appealed that decision, and now the Supreme Court has had the final say. Now every school has a right to determine its uniform policy.

Update:: Unknown gunmen on Thursday abducted the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Edo House of Assembly, Mr Michael Ohio-Ezomon, in his house at Eme-Ora, Owan West Local Government Area of the state. The Chairman of the local government, Mr Frank Illaboya who confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Eme-Ora on Thursday, said Ohio-Ezomon was abducted by three gunmen around 1 a.m. on Thursday.
